My Little Ducko

Da Duck and his mother Strawberrie Sunday
(isn't he cute) :)
A long, long time ago (2005) I had my first baby goat, which I promptly named Ducky. (it's a long story why I named him that). That year we also had way too much zuchinni that over ripened, so we would feed slices of it to our goats. Whenever I would call "Dutini [zuchini] Ducko" or "A Ducko! A Ducko! A wittle baby Ducko!" he would come running.

Awww... I have a question: Do the various cute and rewarding aspects of goats make up for all the work and such?

Um, well, yes and no. That is rather a hard question to answer. Since I am allergic to goats (it is ok in the winter and AWEFUL in the summer)I haven't ever done a majority of the goat chores (now all I have to do is feed the babies twice a day). There is a time for everything, and a couple of years ago I would have said YES, but now they don't seem that important or worth all the work that is put into them. I guess the only thing that I would miss if we quite raising goats would be feeding the babies (which has always been my job). But the thought of getting rid of the goats we have now is rather sad, for it is fine to deciede something in the house, but when you go down and se the looks of trust in those animals eyes there is no way that you can sell them. UNfortunately feed is rising in price, and so it is less than ecconomical to raise them in this manner, for we have several goats that simply eat,and give nothing in return. At this moment we oly have 2 goats that are producing something out of the 14 goats that we have, but if we were to get rid of the goats that give us no benefit, no one would buy them for anything but meat.
Sorry I hope that kinda answers your question. :] It is a question that our family has been pondering for a long time now, with Sarah going off and won't be able to be in charge of the goats like she always has been.
