A whole five books!

Our library is awesome cause there is no limit to how many book you can check out. :D I could probably take the whole library if I wanted to. I didn't do that today, but I did check out five books. I think I probably scared the poor librarian cause I was feeling rather giddy about the prospect of FIVE new books. I don't think I have read a new book just for the fun of it since school started. I feel rather starved to read a new, not weird book. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, since we are reading that for liturature, is not weird. I somewhat enjoyed it, well, enjoyed doesn't quite fit; it was very interesting, but it doesn't fit in the new category cause I have already read it. The sequel to it was one of the books that I checked out, but I was deeply disapointed cause it doesn't tell what happens. Instead it tells about Cassie's gradfather, which kind of odd that the sequel takes place before the original story.

When I will end up reading all the books, I'm not sure, but oh well. :D

Today's Walk

Braving the snow and cold, I went for a walk in our woods. Some of the leaves are still green, with not even a hint of yellow or red. It looks odd to see the snow on the bright green grass. The colors in the woods seems to be on the whole, brighter and more cheerful now that cool weather has come. Swarms of mosquito's seems a long off memory.

Halfway through the woods, I happened to look to my side. Only four yards away there was a white tailed deer standing there with wide eyes watching me. It must have been a yearling, for it was smaller than most deer at this time of the year. Its ears perked up and it stood attentively, stiff as a statue, deciding the best course of action. Turning swiftly, it bounded into the underbrush, its white tail bobbing as it ran.

The sky was threatening snow, and unfortunately I did not have a coat, for my sister decided to leave it at our co-op. Though still cold, the snow on the grass was melting; my tennis shoes became drenched with water, making a disturbing squeak as I walked. Occasionally, a pile of snow would fall off of some leaves overhead and tumble to the ground in front of me.

Looking across our neighbors pasture from our hill, I could clearly see the dark clouds swifly fleeing towards the east. The horses quietly grazed, barely heeding my approach. Suddenly, the sun peaked out from behind the clouds from where it had hidden it's face all afternoon. The whole pasture was bathed in a golden hue. Yellow felcked the horse's manes and body. The red of the nearby oak tree stood out. As sundenly as it had come forth, the sun once again removed its self from veiw, and once again, the world was covered with its blanket of grey clouds.

Daddy's Birthday

This is the the first year that I have made Daddy's birthday cake. Usually, Sarah always insists on doing it herself, and it always looks far better than my attemps. Sadly though, Sarah won't be home for Dad's birthday, so I had to make the cake. I'm fairly pleased with it. It doesn't look that grand, but considering that this is the first cake that I have ever frosted without getting hysterical about the frosting not looking perfect, it is a big accomplishment.

Autumn comes to Happy Sprouts Farm

The wind is blowing rather strong here. Not a warm summer breeze; a harsh cold wind that passes through thin jackets. I wouldn't be surprised if we get some type of snow tonight. Already there are heavy dark clouds blowing quickly across the sky. Uh oh. If it rains/snows hard than we won't have internet access. Bother. :( Oh well. Hopefully it won't snow till I can get my coat back.

It is terribly sad that we won't have Emmaus co-op tomorrow. : (

Awesome Scores

Mom took me to the comunity college today to get the basic tests so that I might be able to take some classes this winter. The testing went very well! I passed out of most of the primary classes, so that means I should be able to start taking classes when ever I want! It is so nice to actually feel like I'm actually making progress in school. :D Yay! Maybe someday I might stop jumping up and down.

Cantigny Park

While visting our Aunt and Uncle, we were also able to go to Cantigny Park. It happened that there was a small scale Civil War symposium going on the Saturday that we were there. The museum was really interesting, though the boys went through the exibits so quickly that I doubt that they read any of the information.

One of the re-enacters was explaing the weapons that were used in the Civil War.

I'll be posting more photos from the re-enactment later after I go through all 812 of them. :P There was also a cavalry demonstration, which Nana really liked.

Chrysanthemums

Outside the Billy Graham Center, there were huge beds of gorgeous chrysanthemums. It is strange, cause normally I dislike chysanthemums.

Wheaton, Illinois

We are visiting our Aunt and Uncle who live around Wheaton. Today my Aunt took us to the Billy Graham Center which is located in the Wheaton College campus and we went through the museum there. We also were able to vist the library. I really like the smell of old books.

PSAT, here I come

I can only do my best and that will have suffice. I need to leave for the high school around 7:15 am, as the test begins at 7:45 am. Hopefully, I'll be able to have a restful sleep tonight, unlike the past few nights. I should try to get to sleep by 8:30.

The Old Oak Tree

Only four more days till the PSAT

Oh joy. I took the dear little practice test in the helpful booklet that we were given by our school district. I'm not really sure what kind of score is a good score, but let's hope that on the actual test my grammar is better. This test is what qualifies for the National Merit Scolarship, but I don't think I will get it, though Mom keeps insiting that I have a chance. Maybe I'm not going to go to college. I'll just stay at home and do random jobs for the rest of my life. I'm sure it can't be too hard to get a job at a pickle factory. People keep asking me "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I don't know. I wish people wouldn't ask. I know they are just curious or trying to be helpful, but there isn't any answer to that question.

Library day

We end up stopping at the library every week to pick up the lituature assignment for the next week. The copy iof "A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" that they had was donated to the library in 1963. Since then, it has only been checked out six times!!!! "Brighty of the Grand Canyon" has been checked out 14 times since it came in 1954.

Stuart's Landing

We did the dancing at the landing. :D

Frost!

It's nice that this hotel has internet! :D
It was really, really cold when we got up this morning. There was ice on top of Karen's car. :0

Anyways, the retreat is going fairly well. The teaching is wonderful, and everything has been very fun, despite missing both our pasto's and our other dear Emmausites. :( The first night somehow Nick and Nat started talking about gruesome things like people being killed in airplane jets. :P Nick said that he would stop talking about it if we managed to get 50 people to sign a petition begging him to stop. With only 70 or so people here at the retreat, it was a fairly hard to accomplish, but Magsplat, Nana, and I manage to collect the whole 50 signatures by 2:00 this afternoon. :D The dancing was delightful. :D

A Terrible Injustice

On my financial peace test there was a section with true or false staments. One of the statements was "30% of people will have a major negative financial event in the next ten years." The real answer is that 95% of people will have a major negative financial event (MNFE) in the next ten years. I marked the statement as correct, because technically, if 95% will have a MNFE, then 30% will also. That probably doesn't make much sense, but it is true. I even wrote a nice little note on the side explaining why that statement was both true and false. The teacher still marked it wrong :( :'(
Not fair. So not fair.

Yikes. I just noticed that this is post number 200. :0
