Good bye Summer!

Tomorrow school begins. Summer really went by quickly, though it was a very good summer. I have only three days to get all my assignments done for the first day of our homeschool co-op, not that the classes I'll be taking with this co-op will be that challenging this year, well, except for Adv. Physics.

I'm kind of worried about taking the PSAT in October, cause when I take tests I have the problem of not taking them seriously enough and rushing through them without paying any attention. Um, and yeah, I don't have Sarah's problem of writing writing essays. Let's just say that with the ACT, I had my essay done with fifteen minutes to spare, and comments on the grading paper said "need longer essay". I had the format and everything down, but one sentence paragraphs don't really work. :P

I have to get the notebooks for my classes done tonight, but I'll be blessed if I don't fall asleep while doing them.

Wow. It's hard to believe that a year ago we had never heard of Emmaus.

Bother!

So today is a beautiful day to take my neighbor's graduation photos. The sky is the perfect color and it isn't too brigh outside. Unfortunately there is one slight problem. Mom has the camera with her. So much for that.

2:45 Update

It is kind of taking longer than I expected, but I have 12 pints of Peach Jam, 9 pints of tomato sauce, 1 burnt finger, and 1 less jar of jalepeno peppers (cause when I was putting the tomato jiuce away I accidentally knocked one off the shelf :P).
This is my first (semi) sucessful attempt at jam! The strawberry jam didn't set up, and the plum preserves had too much sugar. Can't do anymore canning today till mom gets home cause I ran out of pectin and I've done up all the tomatoes that we had in the garden. I guess that's a good thing as now I will have time to get the kitchen cleaned up and supper done.

The whole day before me!

Oh Yay! The whole house all to myself the whole day!!!
(and then at the end of this already almost perfect day SARAH will be coming home!!!!!)
Lets see.
I need to:
Finish canning the peaches
Can Tomato Sauce
Clean up the Kitchen and mop
Put away the three baskets of laundry that have been sitting for a week
That shouldn't take me too long....I hope :P

and if I have extra time I can make supper!
This is so exciting! I haven't had a day like this for almost three months.

Yes, I know it is silly to be excited about cleaning, but oh well.

Oh, and I just remembered, the big mixing spoon's name is Priscilla.

My Beautiful Peaches..... well sort of

.......and I quit for today.

77 quarts isn't too bad.

Choke, Gasp, Fall on the Floor

NOOOOO!!!! Help! Help! Help!
Oh please Mamita! Why are you are getting TWO MORE BUSHELS OF PEACHES?

The Peach Routine

So I peel and slice the peaches and then put them in the nicely washed jars, and then the jars go in the hot water bath canner. It takes 1/2 an hour for that to heat up so while it does that I peel and cut up the peaches for the next set. By the time I'm done with that the water is heated up so I have to wait for another 25 minutes before I can take the hot jars out of the canner and screw the lids down tight. This gives me time to go down stairs and write down what ever boring thing came to my mind while peeling the peaches. So that's why I posted seven posts yesterday. It also explains why the posts are somewhat weird, cause I was really, really bored. After the first set of peaches is done I have to dump out half the boiling hot water and add codl water to it so the jars dont crack when I put the next batch in to can.

49 quarts later

Louisa was angry with me for waking her up at 7:00 to peel more peaches so she bit my pinky finger. That cut really hurts when it gets peach juice in it. Gustavus however, refused to cut me, even when inept me accidentally made him slip off the peach and jabbed him into my palm. What a gentleman!

Bedtime was supposed to be at 9:00 tonight....

I want to sleep! I want to sleep. Please brain of Snap, go to sleep. Tommorrow you can think, tonight is not time to do so. Please, I was hoping to wake up early tommorrow, and now you are making that wish impossible.

Four Bushels of Peaches

Thanks to my dear helpers, however, the pile of peaches is growing less. My trusty knive, Gustavus, has been of much assistance, and thankfully has born none of the enmity for me shown by Percival, the knife of Karen. Gustavas is a rather handsome fellow, with his smooth sharp blade. Although a good worker, Lousia, is rather haughty about the fact that she is a GREEN peeler. I do believe that it hurts her brother Clarence’s feeling when she looks down on him because he is red.

Why Snap doesn't need to watch horror movies....

My imagination works way too well. Us kids have always been very protected (from certain things), but even with out ever watching anyhting scary or ever hearing a ghost stoy, I still had my fill of being scared. Childrens minds are very strange things. I thought there were "monsters" downstairs in the storage room,, but when did I ever hear about "monsters"? Mom and Dad certainly didn't tell me anything about them, and I don't think Sarah did either. All us kids came up with our own "monster" stories by our self, without outside influence which is rather odd. When a very young child, about as far back as I can remember, I was deathly afraid of what I called "seagulls". They were these pelican looking things which lived under my bunk bed and would grab my feet or hands if they were sticking out of the bed. The dresses that hung in our closet were very frightening in the night, but those "monsters" I didn't give a name. As I got older the monsters left the room and were now downstairs in [gasp] the storage room. It was kind of odd, because I would pretend that I had made treaties with the "monsters". Treaties like "they wouldn't eat any part of me that was covered by a sheet", which meant I slept compleatly under a sheet which was awful it the summer so I changed the treaty to say "they wouldn't eat my head or my neck, and "they would only come up stairs after 10:00pm". Why didn't I just imagine that they didn't exist?

Even now my crazy immagination runs away with me. When my bedroom was upstairs I would listen intently to the sounds out side. At any slight noise I would jerk awake and lie stiffly for almost half an hour listening for any other noise, woundering what I would do if some one were to try to get in my window, and then paranoid me would get up and shut and lock my window and then get up and make sure all the doors were locked. Now that is down stairs it's gotten a little bit worse, cause when it's up stairs I know that mom or dad would hear if somehting went wrong, but down in the basement there's only Miss. Nana, and she sleeps through everything. I could go in her room and bounce on her bed and turn the radio on and she still wouldn't wake up. Sometimes I just lie awake wondering what I would do for different seinarios.

Karen's house is sort of frightening. Not her upstairs, but the basement. I used to like it. It was nice and clean and you can sit on the floor and it is cool in the summer, but then once I accidentally let my immagination go. No longer was it a nice place to sit and read, oh no, and the stairs....oh the stairs. Aweful things that don't let you look behind you as you run up them. And oh, what if some one or thing whould come up behind you as you are going up the stairs and grab you!!!! I don't think I could trust myself to scream. Something couldbe hidding down there. And the lights, you have to turn off most of the lights from below, and then run, run as fast as possible hoping that whatever is down in the basement wont get you. Oh, and should Karen happen to have her wheel chair in the way of the door.... I dare not think about it. Ok, so now you know Karen why I locked the basement door at night. :P And why I would run up the stairs and why you always had to tell me to go back down stairs and turn off the lights.

it came close...

...but I still remain,
the Unbeaten H. House Sock Matching Champion.
Today's score: 26 to 42

I think I should stop compeating in the sock challenges cause someday my siblings will get better at it then me and then I won't be able to claim that I have never lost.

Etiquette books are useful..

..how else would I know how to fold bath towels correctly? :D

problem

The sad thing about a job, is that once you start get paid for doing it, it isn't fun any more. It is much more joyful to do a job just because, and not earn anything from it. I don't want to be paid for things like mowing the lawn and babysitting. That's silly. If I hated doing those things, THEN you could pay me for it, but I don't actually mind it at all. Its pay enough to be able to do it. Paying me for that would be like mom paying me to cook super. Now that is utterly ridiculous!

Mom doesn't understand that I don't want to offer to photograph people, cause I still need more expertise in it. Being asked to do it and offering to do it are two different things. When I offer to take photographs for someone, I have basically said that I am confidant that I am able to take the photograph that they want. When asked to take someones photos it isn't me a saying that I'm able to do it, but them saying that they trust me to try. I can't claim to be confidant that the photos I take will turn out nicely, cause many of them haven't. I need to understand the camera before I can feel confidant with it. I need to actually learn why some turn out and some don't. I don't learn well from reading thing on paper, though I can learn that way, but it takes longer to figure it out, however, if someone shows me how to do something, I catch on fairly fast, which is why I really, really wanted to take that class at the community college.

Ok, I guess those two paragraphs don't seem to really go together, but they actually have a connection somewhere in my mixed up mind.

A Rare Occurance

Last night, as we drove back from Emmaus, everyone in the car was dead silent. Except for the few times that dad made a brief comment on something, no one spoke or even moved. The only sound to be heard was the bump, bump, bump of the highway and the loud squeek of the air conditioning. It was a nice change from the normal Luke-flops-all-over-the-seat-and-pokes-and-pinches-us-to-make-us-laugh trip that we have on the way home from church. I guess normally we have Sarah with us too, who talks basically non-stop all the way to church and back.

This time Miss. Nana didn't chatter to fill in the holes of silence either. I was able to not say anyhting all the way home without haveing Miss Nana make up reasons why I was silent. Normally when I don't talk Nana asks me "Are you all right," and then with out waiting for an answer goes on saying thing that I never said, and not giving me time to answer any questions she gives me. "OH, no, Snap is verrrrrry sad. She doesn't like it when I talk. Are you mad at me Snap? Yes, she must be mad at me. Why are you mad at me? Snap doesn't like me. Why are you always so sad?" (she doesn't realize is that if she would actualy let me answer she might get a different story) Without taking a breath she goes on to ask Dad the same question that she asked him a week ago.

Hope College

(And now I'm almost caught up on the vacation photos. Just one more set of the ones from the park, and then I'm done!)

A Fishy Sort of Day

Since we aren't going to be away from home for the rest of vacation, we are going on several day trips instead. This afternoon we went up to the Wolf Lake Fish Hatchery. We took our two neighbors J. and M. The boys were inthralled by the large fish that they could see in the veiwing pond. When we were taken on a tour of the hatchery part where they actauly keep the fish, it smelled really bad.
The best part was that they had some butterfly bush outside the visitors center so I was able to photograph the butterflies that were on it.

And more that didn't fit on the last post

Sailboats, Lighthouses and other such things

(Matt's Sandcastle)

Hope's 2008 Convocation

All the professors came in.
Then all the students came in and sat in the middle.
You probably cant see it, but there are arrows pointing to Sarah and her room mate. I can't get the Blogger to work so you can veiw a larger version of the photo, so I guess this will have to work.

Then we sang some songs and the President of the colege talked, and then a professer talked to the students and then we sang some more songs and then it was over.

August 24

We went to an ELS church, since we had already tried the LCMS churches in that area. Then we went back to Hope and had Lunch. While Sarah had more orientation classes our family wandered around Holland. We found a delightful park, but sadly dad's camera had run out of room to take lots more photos. There was fountain in the park that Mom liked, but personally, it looked very cheep and didn't seem to fit the sophisticated atmosphere of the park.

Anyways, after our stroll in the park (and I forgot to mention that Nana ocupeid herself by chasing the squirels) we went to the DeVos Feild house for the convocation. I'll just do another blog post with photos just from that since they take so long to upload to the blog.

After that we went home

August 23

4:38 pm
Today we woke up, had breakfast int he cafiteria at Hope, attended a seminar for the first year parrents, ate Lunch, and then Dad drove the kids and I back to the campground and then he had to leave for somemore first year parrent classes. While he was gone, the kids and I rode our bikes down a nicely paved bike trail to the beach which was about a mile away. We sat next to the peir for a little while, taking photos of sailboats, and then we went down to the actual beach area. Matt made a sandcastle, while Nana complained about being at the beach. Bunny flopped all over the sand, and then decieded to dig a big hole and I read "The House of the Seven Gables". When Miss Nana had discovered that complaining wasn't working, she helped Bunny with his hole and once bored with that setled down to read "the Two Towers".

The beach was really crowded. but the breeze that came off the lake was realy nice. It had been SO humid in Holland the past few days, and people with excema don't do well in humidity.

Oh, we forgot to bring sunscreen with us to the beach, so I burnt. Silly me. I remembered to put on suncreen every single day of vecation, except this one. :P I guess I get to pay for that. It wasn't a mild sunburn either. It was so bad that it actully caused my skin to tan a tad bit, which is something that my skin jsut doesn't do.

We will be heading home tommorrow to attend Mr. Humphry's funeral. That will be the end of vacation for this year. I'm so very tired. Dad will be coming back to the campground at 5:00 to take us back to Hope for supper.

9:05
Sleep sounds lovely. Getting to sleep in the camper is impossible to do until the boys fall asleep. When they are awake they flop all over the camper, kicking and yelling for eachother to stay "on your side of the bed". When ever they move the camper shakes.

August 22

9:00 am
Everyone is eating breakfast. Sarah is extreamluy nervous and that makes her a tad bit irritable. We have to do a load of laundry before we leave, and then it's off to put Sarah's stuff in her dorm at Hope.

9:30
We just found out that one of our freind who had cancer died on Wednesday. We will be coming back for the funeral. That might cut vacation short

6:01 pm
Stupid Snap says stupid things.
Sarah is all moved into he dorm room. She met her roommate, as well as her roommate's family, and is well pleased with them.

I don't feel like saying much more about it. Goodbye Sarah. I don't know why, but right now I just want to go home and let life go back to normal again.

August 21

1:49
We left our campsite along the Piere Marquette river after taking several photos and packing up the camper. We ate luch along the Musquegon river. Tonight we will be staying at a campground in Holland. This is the last night Sarah will be staying with us, for she moves into the dorms tomorrow.

Miss Nana had been reading "Black Beauty" out loud to the boys as we travel in the car. Thankfully we haven't had any rain at all this vacation.

6:04
The state campground was full when dad went to reserve a site for us before we left, so he paid for a site in a privatly owned "campground". Aside from the crowded quarters (each camper has a 15x15 square feet of dirt to set up their camper) the campground was nice. It was wonderful to have showers again.

August 20

9:30 pm

Another nice day. Went to Nordhouse dunes for the day. Ate lunch at the playgound andthen went for a hike. It was suposed to be a short 1 hour hike, but we had to take differnet paths than we intended. It ended up taking four hours.

Nana and I walk faster thatn the rest of the family, so she and I ended up being 10 minutes ahead of the rest of the family. We stopped to wait for them, and then decided to hide in the bushes and jump out at them. After about five minutes they came, strolling along as usual, the boys randomly picking the huckleberries from the bushes as they walked past. Nana and I were only two feet from the path and were not well hidden at all. Matt was the first of the family to walk past us. He looked right where we were, but was so busy eating that he didn't notice us. Luke was the same. Even Dad didn't notice us. Forgoing our former plan to jump out and surprise them, we decieded to follow behind them. Since they thought we were in front of them they started getting worried when they got to the end of the trail.

Uh, oh. Poor Mom and Dad. I think I've found a mischief partner. :D

After the hike we went swimming in Lake Michigan, The water was really, really cold. It was even colder than the river was.

August 19

5:19 pm
Canoed again today. Started at our campsite at around 10:00, till we reached the upper bend landing at around 4:30.
Last night I accidentaly fell asleep listening to Sarah read "the two towers" to the family.
7:23
Sarah made supper tonight and she and I did the dishes while mom and dad went to the store to get milk. Meanwhile, Matt, Nan, and Bunny biked around the campground. All of our faces are chapped from getting wet in the river and then being dried by the wind. Luke's and mine are the worst
The river was colder today than it was yesterday. Two days till the Hope orrientation. Miss Nana has been rather grumpy with us the past two days. Most likely cause Sarah will be leaving us soon. When the wind isn't blowing, the whole campground is filled with gnats. They are really anoying, as are the mosquitos . :P

August 18

7:19 am
Compleately frozen. Last night I had only a sheet to use to keep warm, since Mom couldn't find my sleeping bag. After Matt and Bunny wouldn't settle down for the night, Dad had Bunny bring his sleeping bag over to my spot so he would be away from Matt. During the night he kept sticking his feet in my face. It is a terribly hard thing to convince a person that is asleep to stop kicking you in the face.

6:02 pm
It has been a whole 27 hours without internet access. Finished canoeing for today. We canoes 12 miles. Put in at about 11:30, later than hopes, due to some misadventures. When we got to the landing, we discovered that we were missing a paddle, so Dad and I had to drive back and pick up our spare paddle at a our campsite that was 20 minutes away.

Canoeing was lots of fun. We were able to get out and swim in hte deep icy pools in the river. When out of the canoe we had to be careful, cause the swift current would carry us down stream and into places that were deeper than we were tall. Dad, Bunny and I had one of the canoes, Sarah and Matt had the other, and Mom and Miss Nan had the kyack. Sarah and Matt raced Dad and My canoe, and once when they were about to pass us, Dad reached out and tipped their canoe. :D Then, another time when he was going to tip it again, I leaned over and made our canoe tip, and in the end both the canoes we upside down andstuck under a log. Bunny ended up sitting on top of the log and I was stuck in between the log and the canoes. Somehow during this I manged to loose my hair clip.

Oh, and we found my sleeping bag! Yay! I wound freeze to death again tonight!
Hopefully we will be able to sit around the fire tonight and listen to Sarah read "The Two Towers" .

[note: this was the "obsessed with photographing fences" day]

Photos, coming soon....

well, as soon as I can get all 989 of them sorted and decide which ones to post.

Why in the world did I take 20 or so photos of the fence at the campground and what was so appealing to me about photographing that stop sign? I guess I don't know.

August 17

6:15 pm
We left the house at around 5:30, dispite Dad's wish to leave no later than 4:30. Though we were ready to leave at that earlier time, the lights on the camper weren't working. Dad had to rewire them before they would light up. We hit some construction close to Grand Rapids, but so far we are making pretty good headway.

This vacation is rather different from past vacations, as we are traveling in two different vehicals: Dad's little car and the big white van with the camper. Sarah is riding with Dad in the car, so I get to be co-pilot and read the map for mom.

The countryside has changed quite dramatically as we have driven. The ground had become more and more sandy, the trees are now largely comprised of sassafrass, silver maple, aspen and oak. There are also large amounts of weeping willow.

Normal amounts of bickering can be heard coming from the seat behind me, occasionally there is a distressed call of "MOM!!!". :P

6:25
We are now in Grand Rapids. The name of the roads here are *very* creative. "Ten Mile Rd" "Seventeen Mile Rd" "Six Mile Rd" and so forth

9:31
We are now at our campground along the Pere Marquete river, and everything is set up. We can't find my sleeping bag anywhere. I hope we find it tommorrow. :P

Goodbye Everyone

It's so much easier to say goodbye this way instead of in person. Good bye Emmaus! Goodbye Pasto's. Goodbye S.s, H.s, R.s, and G.s. Bye Karen. I'll miss you all. Vacation should be fun, but it will be nice to come back home afterward.
So many things can change in two weeks.
::wipes tear from eye::
Goodbye!

Yay!

Micheal Pheps! He did it! Eight gold medals! Yay!
Hurrah for the awesome American Olympians!

Same Song, Second Verse

or more like same knife, second finger.

My pinky finger this time. Stupid Snap. I only have three more fingers on my left hand that I have left to injure. :P

I'm sure you all are wondering "why don't you just stop using that knife". The answer is that I like that knife cause it actually cuts, unlike our knives at home that you actaully have to work at cutting things.

It must be Stupid Snap Day today.

Usual Lack of Intelligence

So when packing last night to spent the night at Karen's, intelligent me packed up every thing I needed, except for a change of clothes to wear today. I guess I get to wear yesterday's church clothes again.

Friday, August 15, 2008

Such a hard decision

Should I use the big old suitcase or the sturdy newer backpack?
The backpack looks nice, but doesn't hold as much stuff. Then again, I'm not bringing that much with me. If I take the big one I might be tempted to bring more than I actually need, but if I can't fit everything in the backpack then I'll have to take two bags. Perhaps I should bring two bags instead of one, cause then I could put my clothes in one, and everything else in another.

Hmmm. I should take my physics book with me so I can get a head start on that. Maybe I should take the biology book too. If I take them I won't have time to read them, but if I don't take them, I'll wish I had. What about my sketch book? I really would hate to loose it or have it get all messed up. Should I bring any reading books, or will I not have time for those? The camera will definitely be coming with us, but I kind of scares me to think of accidentally loosing it. :o

Which shoes should I take? My hiking boots? Those might be a little too heavy to wear while canoeing, but hiking tennis shoes isn't that fun. I can't bring both my tennis shoes and my hiking boots. I'll have to bring my new shoes for Sunday, and to wear around Hope, and then flip flops for showering, and Mom said to also bring some nicer shoes just incase. Yikes! That's already four pairs of shoes.

The Land of the Setting Sun (not to be confused with the Land of the Rising Sun)

In less than a week we shal be on vacation! Yay! Lake Michigan!
:( Sadly, Sarah will only be with us for one week of it, and part of our vaction will be used in taking her to college.
Thankfully we will still be able to fit our bikes along side the three canoes. :P Bikes are better than canoes.

Today's Life Lesson

Knives are sharp.
Knives are nice.
Thumbs are nice.
Knives that come into contact with thumbs are not nice.
Thumbs are important.
Washing dishes is hard to do with one hand.

Moral: When the knife is kept in a cardboard case that says "sharp", it does actaully mean that it is sharp.

Come on!

Stop being so stubborn Karen!
Please?

thoughts from the 4-H lemonade booth

The little boy that stopped and talked to me about his new stuffed green and purple stuffed animal, who is he? What is his family like? The couple with him didn't seem to care much about him at all, walking way from him while he was still commenting on how big the lizards purple feet were. The little boy barely noticed that they had left in time to see where they disappeared into the crowd. Why did they do that? Was the man really his father, or was the woman just his dad's girlfriend? Or were they truly a loving family who cared for him and just happened to be deep in conversation and didn't realize that he wasn't with them.

I wish these girls I'm working with would stop flirting with the boys. We are going to get absolutely no business with them laughing and giggling, and making rude remarks like this. Please! Wash your hands before you make the lemonade after you have touched money.

Oh, we need more ice. Hey! Look! The ice is in a building instead of under a tent this year. Hmmm.... that smoke is awful....I wish that concession stand wasn't right next to the booth. The chainsaw booth. Daddy. Wood. Hmmm... that lady looks familiar. Lets see, can I sign my name on that sheet of paper upside down? :D [smile] That lady spelled my name wrong. OH, wow! Ice is cold. Goodness! This is the third time I've had to get some ice for the booth today.

I really wish who ever brought the supplies for this booth wouldn't put the sugar up so high. I have to use a ladder to get to it. You know, that little boy with the purple lizard was alot like Martin.....I wonder if the Stuckwischs have gotten back yet?

"Can I help you?" "One lemonade? That will be 1.75. " One seventy five, two, three, four, five, ten, twenty. "Here's your change. Thank you for supporting 4-H. " " Um girls could you please make one lemonade? I can't do it cause I have touched money."

Oh, no. Here comes some one I know. Hide. Wait I can't do that. Ummm...... Uh. "Hi, can I help you" Smile me, smile. Don't hurt their feeling by frowning: smile.

Oh, at last. Finally I have help! This booth is supposed to have four people working it, not one and a half. What! Uh oh. I guess were illegal. Hmmm. No adults working this shift. Wait. Mrs. Keifer basically left me as the adult. Oh, wow. And I'm younger than all of these people. Their doing the lemonade all wrong. I guess someone has to show them how to do it.

Roll the lemons. Put on gloves. Slice the lemons. Squeeze the lemons. Put two scoops of sugar in the cup, no, not heaping scoops. Oh, customers. "How can I help you?" Oh, I need to get more sugar down. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I've been in here for a whole eight hours!!!!! I need to get out. Stay calm. You can make it. If you leave they won't be able to do it.

Oh, at last! Here comes Mrs. Keifer! I can leave! Yay! I enjoy working in the booth, but eight hours of it can become tiring.

Interesting conversations

Today, about 3 hours into my eight and half hour shift at the 4-H lemmonade booth, I was able to take a small half hour break. During this time Sarah and I decieded to walk through the barns and see the exibits that I had not yet seen. With still a little time remaining till my break was up, we went to the commercial barns (where they have all sorts of booths and such for different oranizations and commanies). There was one booth where a man stopped us and asked us if we we sure we were going to heaven.

Sarah and I: Oh, yes! I am going to go to heaven.
Man: How can you be certain?
Sarah and I (again said together): Because Jusus died on the cross for my sins.
Man: have you asked him into your heart?
Me: No! I don't need to!
Man: Yes you do! See I have a verse here "Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit."
Sarah: but we have been born of water and the spirit!
Me: We have been baptized!
Man: No, to be born of water is when you were born as a baby. To be born of the spirit you much ask Jesus to enter your heart.
(now it is nescesary to note that throughout this whole conversation the man has a sneer on his face that has gradually become more obvious)
Me: But I can't ask Jesus into my heart!
Man: Yes.....
Me: No! I couldn't, cause I have no power to come to Jesus or beleive in him, but thank God, Jesus died on the cross for my sins and has given me the Holy Spirit and made me his own through baptism...
Man: No! You have to accept Jesus
Sarah: But we are already born of water and the spirit!
Man: NO! You must ask Jesus into your heart!
(this went on a while longer, but the man didn't back up anthing he said, and just kept repeating the same thing over and over again)
Rolling his eyes and looking at us as if we were idiots, the man turned his back to us and walked away.

Why was he so keen of destroying our confidence in our baptism? Why was he not, as a fellow Christian, rejoicing in the forgivness of Christ? I really don't understand.

Family "groups"

Sarah and I are "the older kids".
Sarah, Nana and I are "the girls".
Matt, Bunny, and Nana are "the little kids" or "thre musketeres" or "Nana and the boys".
Matt and Nana are "the twins".
Bunny and I are "the bunny-friends" (which sometimes confuses people cause we both refer to each other as "Bunny". We used to call eachother Bunny friend, but it gradually got shortened.)
Matt and I used to be "the buddies".
Sarah and Nana haven't officially gotten a name yet.
Neither has Nana and Bunny. Hmmmm, that needs to be fixed.......

Day 1: Monday

To sum the whole day up: it was good and bad. So descriptive. :P

I did better with my goats than I thought I would. Unfortunately, Sarita's goat was really ornery, so she didn't do as well as she had hoped. :( Our neighbor/friend did awesomely and won overall goat showmanship. Now she has to compeate in the large animal showmanship sweepstakes, which means that she has to learn how to show horses, pigs, llamas, and both beef and dairy cattle before Saturday. I managed to make it through showmanship, but after that, my face swelled up and I got all itchy. :P I didn't even pay attention in market class, cause I kept sniffling. Nasty allergies.

Here it goes

The beginning of the county fair. All is entered. It is now time to go to sleep. Ah, sleep! It sounds so lovely! Sleep, and then comes tommorrow.

Tommorrow.

The day we don our white clothes.
The day I give my goat one last final cleaning, before I go to compete completely unprepared.
The day that will be filled with stress, with running back and forth from rabbit and goat showmanship, and helping siblings change from white clothes to black clothes and so forth.
The day in which I will discover how my projects that I have worked on have placed.
The day which shall bring good memories and also regrets, but what day doesn't?

Will it go well? Will I be surprised? Will I be disappointed? Will I make it? Will I place? Will I be disqualified? What shall happen?

I guess I had just better wait and see. Perhaps I should go to sleep, before I start crying for no particular reason.

oh, wow

It's a good thing that I didn't add anymore to my fractured fairytale, cause if I had written any more it would be too long to enter in the fair. There is a 10 page limit for the creative writing class, and double spaced my story filled exactly 10 pages. :o I'm shocked that I actually managed to make it that long. Thank you my dear Sarita for editing it for me. :)

Now, if my other dear siblings would hurry up with their produce picking, then we could go to the fair grounds and actually enter stuff. Come on guys! It can't take that long to pick a watermellon, and harvest 12 beans and dig 10 potatoes and whatever else you are taking.
[sigh]
Oh well.....

Lo! He comes with clouds descending..

Lo! He comes with clouds descending,
Once for ev'ry sinner slain;
Thousand, thousand saints attending
Swell the triump of his train:
Aleluia, aleluia, aleluia!
Christ the Lord returns to reign.
Ev'ry eye shall now behold him

Robed in glorious majesty;

Those who set at naught and sold him,

Pierced and nailed him to the tree,

Deeply wailing, deeply wailing, deeply wailing,

Shall their true Messiah see.

Those dear tokens of His passion

Still His dazzling body bears,

Cause of endless exualtation

To His randsomed worshipers.

With what rapture, with what rapture, with what rapture,

Gaze we on those glorius scars!

Yea, amen let all adore Thee,

High on Thine eternal throne;

Savior, take the power and glory,

Claim the kingdom as Thine own.

Aleluia, Aleluia, Aleluia!

Thou shalt reign and Thou alone!

Tommorrow it begins.....

One way to wash a goat (this goat is/was named Ducky)
My showmanship goat is washed. :P The last goat I shall ever wash (Lord willing)!!! Nice Miss Nana washed my market goat for me. :)

Poor Sarita, Nana and Daddy-O have to wake up really early to get all the goats and tack packed up and still arrive at the fairgrounds before six o'clock. :D Lucky me doesn't have to do that this year, cause I'll be at Karen's. :D Pretty much all the fair projects are done, which is pretty good. So far we haven't had as stressful a time as we have had in past years....well, except for trying to find picture frames. The only one of my fair projects that has yet to be completed are my potato rolls. Unfortunatly I can't work on them right now cause all my other siblings are finishing their baking projects. I'll probably end up making them at Karen's house tonight while we watch some of the olympics. :D

One more project compleated

My painting is finished! I am done with it!

The Olympics have officially started! Yay!

Walmart, photos, and learning new things

Today after dropping off our dear Maggie and Anan, Mom and us kids went to Walmart so that I would be able to print off the several photographs that I will (hopefully :P) be entering in the county fair. All went well, or so it seemed at first. We used digital photo printers like usual, paid for them and walked out.

On first examination, the photos seemed okay, but after looking at them closely, I really didn't like them. After Walmart we went to several other stores and each time when we got back to the car I would look at the photos hoping that I might like them, but each time I disliked them even more. The color was all off. The once clear photos were blurry (and you probably know by now that I don't like it when my photos are blurry :P) And even worse, there were small horizontal lines runing across the photos.

After sighing over how the photos looked for the millionth time, my dear Mamita decided that we would go back and see if we could try re-printing them. We turned around, and headed back to Walmart to talk to photo developers. Mom wasn't able to see the horizontal lines that were in the photos, and neither could the one employe the was with the photo lab. :P For a while I thought that perhaps I was hulicitaing, or that the lines were and optical illusion, but thankfully the other younger photo assistant could see them. It is a terribly feeling to be able to see something that one one else can see. [insert sigh of relief] Thankfully we were able to reprint the photos.

OK. If you ever print photos at Walmart use the machine that prints your photos in an hour instead of the one that prints them immeadiatly.
1. You save money. The hour prints are much cheaper than the immeadiate ones.
2. The photos are better quality. The ones that are printed immeadiatly are printed. The ones that are done in an hour are actually developed. If you would like to see the differnce, just ask and I can show it to you.
It doesn't always take a whole hour either. If they aren't real busy then they can be done as soon as ten minutes. (and 10 minutes gives you enough time to go and buy a pair of awesome shoes!)
The ten minutes were definately worth it! I really like how they turned out! Thank you so much Mamita for going back! Yay! I feel happy!

And wow this one is long too.
(and please forgive all the gramatical errors and misspellings cause it is kind of past my bed time, and my mind is tired :P)

Painting

My painting from art class is almost 3/4 of the way done, so hopefully it will be ready to enter in the fair as well. I still don't like how it looks, but oh well, at least it will be completed. I guess it is a good thing that I promised my art teacher I would enter it in the fair, cause if I hadn't I don't think I would ever have finished it.

I'm done with goats forever

and ever and ever.....

Or at least I hope so. I shall not shave another goat. One is a enough. I know my market goat isn't done, but perhaps I can pay one of my siblings to shave it for me. Anyways this is the last time I am ever going to show a goat, unless something strange and miraculous happens which changes my mind, and I hope that doens't happen.

(ok, I'll still take care of the baby goats in the spring, but other than that I'm done!)

after parental elimination...

We have 26 remaining.
:( Dad and Mom didn't like some of my favorite ones, and they kept some of the ones that are rather out of focus and that I don't really like at all, which makes me begin to doubt whether on not I should have asked them......

Closer to a decision....

I guess 56 is closer to 4 than 1000 is.....

Now I just have to have Mom and Dad help narrow it down even more.

Decisions, Desicions

Out of all my photos I can only chose one to enter in our county fair. Well, one single photo, and then a series of three photos.... but still I have over 1000 photos.

Hmmmm.....four out of 1000.....that's 0.4% of my photos from 2008.

I have a feeling that this is going to take me a looooong time.

Second attempt at (one of) my favorite flowers

We forgot something, again

So, instead of cleaning my room today like I had planned, Sarah and I get to go to our county fair grounds and clean the 4-H lemonade booth. :P

Sleep

I have always been more of morning person; I perfer going to sleep and waking up really early as oposed to going to sleep and waking up really late. If I sleep in past eight o'clock, it is as good as not sleeping at all. In that case, I wake up with a terrible feeling that I 've slept way too much and the whole day seems like I'm always behind.

I usually wake up when the sun rises. This automatic waking with the sun still happens even if I hadn't gone to sleep untl midnight the night before. For five days after my last goodnights sleep, I will still wake up at around six. (This is why I would go to bed ridiculously late at Higher things and still wake up at aproximately six o'clock) Once I have passed those five days, however, I nolonger wake up automatically and then I have to reset the schedule by going to bed at eight thirty or so (which is the place where I am at right now :P).
