Only four more days till the PSAT
Oh joy. I took the dear little practice test in the helpful booklet that we were given by our school district. I'm not really sure what kind of score is a good score, but let's hope that on the actual test my grammar is better. This test is what qualifies for the National Merit Scolarship, but I don't think I will get it, though Mom keeps insiting that I have a chance. Maybe I'm not going to go to college. I'll just stay at home and do random jobs for the rest of my life. I'm sure it can't be too hard to get a job at a pickle factory. People keep asking me "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I don't know. I wish people wouldn't ask. I know they are just curious or trying to be helpful, but there isn't any answer to that question.

College certainly isn't a necessity and you needn't feel that it is. On the other hand, college can be a positive, life-changing experience. You also shouldn't feel like your opportunity to attend college depends on one test score or one scholarship.
You might be surprised the variety of sources of scholarships, if you spend a little time looking around. Nor do you have to finance four full years at a more expensive school. Working off and on between terms, during the summer, or even during a term, and taking your first two years at a community college can really reduce the expense dramatically.
